The legendary pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim announced Tuesday, October 4 in the evening being suffering from a “serious neurological disease” and withdrawing his activities in the coming months.
“It is with a mixture of pride and sadness that I announce today that I take a step back from some of my spectacle activities, in particular management commitments, for the coming months” , writes the Maestro Israélo-Argentin on Twitter.

“My health has deteriorated in recent months and I was diagnosed with a serious neurological disease”, announces Mr. Barenboim, 79 years old. “I must now focus as much as possible on my physical well-being,” adds the Maestro Israeli-Argentinian. Mr. Barenboim had already had to cancel several commitments in February and April due to health problems.
His management of “The Nibelung ring” by Richard Wagner at the National Opera, scheduled for his 80th anniversary on November 15, had also been recently canceled.
The Maestro is the musical director of the Berlin State Opera and his orchestra, the Staatskapelle, for three decades and under contract until 2027.
He notably created a foundation and an orchestra responsible for promoting cooperation between the young musicians of Israel and the Arab countries.
