The German Chancellor tours the Gulf in the hope of sealing new energy agreements to replace Russian supplies and alleviating the energy crisis.

On the occasion of a visit to the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates and Germany signed, Sunday, September 25, an agreement providing for the supply in 2022 and 2023 of liquefied gas and diesel from this Gulf country in Berlin.
The agreement provides for the export of a liquefied natural gas cargo (LNG) to Germany at the end of 2022, then the supply of additional quantities in 2023. The news agency
of the Emirates, WAM, reports a direct diesel delivery made in September and an agreement to provide up to 250,000 tonnes per month of diesel for 2023.
By virtue of the agreement, the United Arab Emirates will provide “a cargo of LNG which will be delivered at the end of 2022 and used for the commissioning of the Flottant Import Terminal of Germany in Brunsbüttel”, a port from the North Sea.
Public oil company Emirates DNOC made its very first direct diesel delivery to Germany in September, and “will provide up to 250,000 tonnes of diesel per month in 2023”, according to the same source.

The Minister of Industry Emirati, Sultan Al-Jaber, welcomed a “new historic agreement” which “strengthens the energy partnership in full expansion between the United Arab Emirates and Germany” during the signature of the agreement. Mr. Scholz, who met President Emirati, Mohammed Ben Zayed Al Nahyane, also present at the signing, “praised” an agreement on “energy security”.
