This year, more than 4,000 positions have not been filled with teacher competitions in primary as in secondary school, a historically low rate that lets fear a high -voltage school year. However, the Minister of National Education, Pap Ndiaye, says he is “confident so that the start of the school year happens at best” in schools, colleges and high schools, despite this unprecedented crisis which forced the ministry to hire many contractual.
“There are structural difficulties linked to the attractiveness of the profession, but at this stage we are confident so that the start of the school year happens as best as possible for the students of the Créteil Academy, and beyond of course for The whole territory, “said the minister to AFP Tuesday August 23 during a trip devoted to this subject to the rectorate of Créteil, a academy which brings together part of the departments of the Paris region (Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne and Seine-et-Marne) and is particularly affected by recruitment difficulties.

On site, the Minister notably met with the members of the start-up unit set up to best meet the requests of schools and establishments in terms of staff.
In this academy, “at this stage, the situation is comparable, even slightly better, that of last year at the same time”, according to Mr. Ndiaye. But “there are difficulties in certain disciplines of” secondary school, in particular for vocational high schools, and “we work there,” he added, promising that there would be “a teacher in front of all the class in all the French schools “at the start of the school year.
Faced with these difficulties, the ministry notably used the recruitment of contract workers in June during controversial days of “job dating”, interviews organized in several academies. Today, contract workers represent 1 % of the teachers in the first degree and 8 % in the second degree, with strong geographic disparities, all the academies not being affected in the same way by the shortage of teachers.

“It is true that we use a proportion of contractual teachers who are important, particularly in this academy, because of the school needs we have here, said Pap Ndiaye. We must answer this by improving the ‘Attractiveness of the teaching profession. These are structural measures that we will take in the coming months. In the meantime, we recruit as best as possible. “
The rector of the Créteil Academy, Daniel Auverlot, said “having no concern for the start of the school year”. “In the first degree, we have loyal to 700 contract workers that already existed, and we finish the recruitment of approximately 200 additional contract workers, he assured. In the second degree, we have recruited and loyal 400 contract workers. “
In the first degree (nursery and elementary schools), barely over 900 candidates were recruited from teaching competitions in the Créteil Academy, on 1,665 open positions.
