Demonstrations against the power junta in Guinea since September 2021 took place Thursday in Conakry, paralyzing the Guinean capital, despite the ban on the authorities and a strong police device. A person was killed, the organizers said, information that has not been confirmed by the authorities.

This demonstration, on the initiative of the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC), an important coalition of parties, unions and civil society organizations, aimed in particular to denounce the “unilateral management of the transition “by the junta as well as its” systematic refusal to open a credible dialogue framework “to define the terms of the transition.

The old ruling party, the gathering of the people of Guinea (RPG) and another important coalition formed of parties, movements and associations, the National Alliance for Alternation and Democracy (Anad), had also called to join the protest movement.

In several districts, clashes have broken out among young demonstrators and the police, according to a journalist from the France-Presse Barricades agency were erected, burned tires. And the police fired tear gas to disperse groups that threw stones at them. The prosecution ordered prosecution against the organizers of the demonstration on Thursday. 2> a “paralysis” succeeds

Ibrahima Diallo, manager of the FNDC operations, welcomed herself for having succeeded in this “paralysis” of the system. Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, who spilled President Alpha Condé on September 5 for more than ten years (2010-2021), has committed to handing power to elected civilians within three years.

Speaking in Bissau, during a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, the President in office of the Organization of West African States (ECOWAS), Umaro Sissoco PAPOO, assured having convinced the Bunny to accelerate the return to democracy.

“I was in Conakry (…) to make the military junta understand the decision of the Summit of Heads of State that the transition cannot exceed 24 months. They had proposed 36 months, but we have succeeded in convincing them, “he said. On the other hand, Ousmane Gaoual Diallo, Guinean Minister and spokesperson for the transitional government, told Agency France-Presse that “neither the government nor the presidency confirms this information on the duration of the transition in Guinea”.

Three FNDC leaders were violently arrested on July 5, causing violent spontaneous demonstrations. They had all been released at the end of a trial where they were tried for “outrage at magistrate”.
