Interview. Appointed Minister of Sports and Olympic and Paralympic Games on May 20, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra experienced a baptism of chaotic fire with incidents at the Stade de France a week later. At the head of a full -service ministry, she participated, Monday, July 25, in the stage summoned by President Emmanuel Macron, two years before the start of the 2024 Paris Games (from July 26 to August 11). “We are in the times of passage,” says Amélie Oudéa-Castera, according to whom, “inflation will quickly force us to make adjustments”.

Emmanuel Macron brought together on Monday morning, Elysée, an Olympic and paralympic council with a dozen ministers. Should we see a resumption in hand of the executive on the organization of the Olympic Games?

Recovered in hand, that would mean that it was not going. Very clearly, this is not the case. On the other hand, it was a will of the head of state to make a real step of a step that is precise, ambitious and which mobilizes each of us at best of his forces.

we are At two years old, from the start of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. Is France ready?

There remains work but we are perfectly in the times of passage, to take over the sports metaphor. On all of our sites, be it stabilization of the sites map, contract with each of the operators of the sites, the challenges of safety, transport, control and the attention we pay to the monitoring of budgets , etc. On all these subjects, we are very lucid about what we have to do, and rather proud of what has already been accomplished.

Incidents at the Stade de France have aroused doubts about the ability French to organize major sporting events. The Court of Auditors, for its part, is very alarmist on security and budgetary issues…

What happened at the Stade de France is a failure is the word that the Minister of the Interior used. It is a question of drawing, for the games, all the lessons of what happened on May 28, both on the calibration of the internal security forces and on the reinforcements that we will have to find in private security. Between 7,000 and 10,000 members of the internal security forces will be mobilized daily for games. The “Sentinel” system [deployment of deterrent and protection patrols against the terrorist threat] will be pushed as much as possible, the Minister of Defense, Sébastien Lecornu, confirmed it on Monday morning. We will have the army competition during the opening ceremony. There is also a real acceleration of work on the mobilization of the entire private security sector sector. We need 17,500 private security agents on average daily, with peaks that will go up to 22,000 in securing Olympic sites.
