South Africa won on Saturday in Rabat its first African Cup of Nations (CAN) female by beating Morocco in the final 2 to 1, thanks to a double of his attacker Hildah Magia.

The South African noise, untenable throughout the meeting, offers Banyana Banyana their first CAN after five lost finals. “They wanted to win this cup so much and now it’s done,” said Desiree Ellis, the South African coach, who praised the “character of the team”.

The two teams had reached the break on the score of 0 to 0 after a balanced first half but without sparkle-apart from the cracking of smoke bodies providing thick smoke over the lawn. In the second half, the South Africans, well organized, appeared cooler than their rivals, blunt.

Magaia first picked up a center back a center back at the 63 e minute, then reoffended eight minutes later by pricking the ball above the Moroccan goalkeeper Khadija er -Rmichi. Tottenham Rosella Ayane’s player reduced the atlas lionesses to the 80 e minute. But too late. Despite Moroccan pressing, the solid South African defense held up until the end of the nine minutes of extension.

“We would have liked to win this CAN but we were tired,” admitted Lionese coach Reynald Pedros after the match. This final was disputed by an overwhelming heat, forcing the players to hydrate regularly, in a stadium of Prince Moulay Abdellah full to crack (45,000 spectators). With three injured and six players in total, the meeting left traces on the organizations.

First Arab country to reach the female CAN final, Morocco leaves competition after having eliminated Nigeria, the favorite team, already multicourished and title holder. Like South Africa, he will participate in the Women’s World Cup in a year in Australia and New Zealand.
