Video To stem the spread of a fire, firefighters can use tactical lights. They consist in setting fire in a controlled manner to the surrounding vegetation. This method is currently used in Gironde.
Since Tuesday, July 12, firefighters are fighting against two fires in Gironde. In the space of a week, the flames ravaged 14,000 hectares of forest in the municipalities of La Teste-de-Buch and Landiras.
To try to contain the flames, the firefighters use different techniques, including that of the tactical lights which decompose in two methods: the counter-fire and the directed burning.
The first is to light a fire in a targeted area to oppose a fire. Meeting the two homes, the fire and the counter-fire go out, for lack of fuel. The second is used to serve as the fight. Firefighters fire a perimeter to remove the vegetation. This makes it possible to extinguish a edge which presents signs of recovery or to secure the emergency forces by creating a refuge zone.
