Call for strike with deliverers of Just Eat, under threat of heat wave and a dismissal plan

Negotiations of support measures do not advance, according to the unions.

After the COVID-19, the heat wave again places the bicycle delivery people on the front line to wear meals at home. But, Friday July 15 “in the evening”, the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), the second union behind Force Ouvrière (FO), calls the employees of the Just Eat platform to strike in a dozen cities. Insufficient measures to protect deliverers by these hot weather is only part of the reasons for the union dissatisfaction, which also provides wage and employment demands.

As during the first episode of heat wave, in June, the management of Just Eat explains in a press release, having asked its orders of orders located in Amsterdam, where the group’s headquarters are, “to be flexible when it comes to flexibility On break times and accept, if necessary, requests to shorten “shifts” [delivery period] “. Clearly, “it’s at the head of the customer”, denounces Ludovic Rioux, CGT union delegate. In any case, “there is no communication on these measures”, deplores Jérémy Graça, FO union delegate. The management has planned a “closing threshold” of the service in the cities where the temperature reaches 38 ° C.

negotiations “not worthy of a large group

But it is above all the in progress negotiations that concern unions, starting with the job safeguard plan (PSE) targeting the dismissal of 300 employees out of 800, including 269 deliverers, a year and a half after having them hired. The unions do not appreciate the postponement of the last negotiation meetings which were to take place on July 11.

Two themes are on the agenda: wages and PES, with the closure of Just Eat in twenty cities. “The discussions on the PSE do not move forward, deplores Mr. Rioux. The management always refuses to give us essential information that it is obliged to provide us, such as the financial flows between the subsidiaries and the Just Eat Takeaway group and Orders by city. “For Mr. Graça, who does not call on strike,” because negotiations are not over “, the latter” are not satisfactory, not worthy of “a large group. Just State proposed, specifies Mr. Garça, “training for around 3,000 euros per person and a reclassification leave of six months, it’s too little”.

The CGT, however, notes “positive elements”, such as the management’s proposal to end the annualization of working time or the reduction, in the event of sick leave, the number of deficiency days to Three days instead of seven, but only for employees who have a year of seniority. On the other hand, there would also be proposals deemed “regressive” by the CGT, such as the increase in the maximum weight of the bag to 10 kg instead of 5 kg currently. Solicited, management could not answer us, its press service saying that they have found “no one available (…) on this long weekend”.
