Video the most powerful space telescope ever built delivered its first images. Thanks to its unprecedented performance, James-Webb shows five regions of the sky under a new eye. David Larousserie, Journalist Sciences au “world”, analyzes these shots.
Launched on December 25, 2021, the James-Webb space telescope (JWST) delivered its first images. In addition to their beauty, the clichés highlight the unpublished performance of JWST, compared to those of its predecessors, Hubble and Spitzer. The telescope, built by NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA) and their Canadian counterpart (ASC), is the result of a three decades long.
The telescope is also able to decompose light into different wavelengths. In addition to exploring the stars, the spectra produced by JWST make it possible to study the chemical elements that have emitted or filtered these rays.
