Exasperated by the country’s economic collapse, thousands of Sri Lankans demonstrated on Saturday July 9 to claim the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaka. The presidential palace was invaded by the Prime Minister’s crowd and private residence was burnt down. Under pressure from the street, the president, Gotabaya Rajapaka, and his Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinga, have fled and promised to resign in the coming days.
