Friday July 8, at the end of the day, finally a little respite on the fire front in the Gard. The fire, started the day before in the afternoon, in Bordezac, after consuming 650 hectares, was fixed. “The firefighters finish treating the various households, but part of the population is still confined. We will decide, with the mayor, of his disconception,” explained to the world, Friday evening, Jean Rampon, sub-prefect of the district of Alès, present on site.
The approximately 300 inhabitants should therefore be able to leave their home. No victim is to be deplored and the material damage would be minimal. “No house has burned, it is a miracle,” said Didier Cayron, the mayor of the town on Twitter. The drop in wind, which was blowing around 20 to 30 km/h, allowed the control of this big fire. This is the second of summer, after the 1,200 hectares burned in the Pyrénées-Orientales following a start of fire in the town of Opoul, on June 28. To fight the fire of Bordezac, 1,200 firefighters -including 310 from the department and 810 of the neighboring departments but also from Alsace -, four Canadia, two Dash and two water bomber helicopters were engaged.
Friday evening, another fire raged in the south of the Gard. “We have reoriented part of the device on SERNHAC, where a few hectares have already been consumed and part of the inhabitants evacuated,” confirmed Mr. Rampon. According to the sub-prefect, forty-eight fire departures were recorded in forty-eight hours, and “yesterday, between 4 pm and 6 pm, we counted twelve”. Neighboring Bouches-du-Rhône have also experienced a large number of fire starts.
To avoid the repetition of these disasters, the prefect of the department, Marie-Françoise Lecaillon, published a decree, Friday, to prohibit “access, traffic, parking of any vehicle, the presence of anyone ( …) In the forest and garrigues of the Gard massifs of more than one hectare “. Some mayors have already decided to cancel the fireworks planned for the holidays of July 14.
The important episode of “strong heat”, announced by Météo France, for the next few days risks complicating the situation. This weekend, maximum temperatures should reach 30 to 34 ° C from Pays-de-Loire in the southwest, and 34 to 37 ° C from the interior of Languedoc-Roussillon lands in Var. The increase should continue and, from Tuesday, July 12, maximum temperatures should exceed 30 ° C throughout the country, and even 35 ° C on New Aquitaine, Occitania and the Rhône Valley . The following days, the 38 ° C could be affected and exceeded “in places”. “This heat wave should therefore be intense and durable,” sums up Météo France.
