Jean-Marc Reiser, 61, was sentenced Tuesday, July 5 by the Assize Court of the Bas-Rhin to the maximum penalty he incurred, the criminal imprisonment with perpetuity with 22 years of security, for the Assassination of student Sophie Le Tan in 2018.
At the statement of the verdict, Mr. Reiser remained stoic, hand in the back, look towards the ground. In his last speech, he had claimed a “fair” sentence and reaffirmed that he never wanted or premeditated Sophie’s death. This verdict complies with the requisitions pronounced on Monday by the Advocate General.
Sophie Le Tan disappeared on September 7, 2018, day of 20 years, after going to visit Mr. Reiser’s apartment in Schiltigheim, north of Strasbourg. Defined by the evidence, Mr. Reiser finally recognized in early 2021 that he had killed and dismembered Sophie, confessions maintained at trial.
