At least 35,000 people demonstrated on Sunday in the Georgian capital, to demand the formation of a new government of national unity, better capable of “conducting the reforms requested by Brussels” in order to obtain the status of candidate to the EU.

All of the opposition training courses and several proeuropian organizations had called to demonstrate to accentuate the pressure on the ruling party, a Georgian dream, accused of authoritarian drift and of having deteriorated the relationship with Brussels. “We ask that the oligarch Bidzina Ivanichvili (founder of the Georgian dream) renounces the executive power and transfers it, respecting the Constitution, a government of national unity,” they called in a message on Facebook before the demonstration. A new government must “conduct the reforms requested by the EU and which will automatically bring us the status of candidate for EU membership”, continues the text.
