In these prestigious schools, complainants are all students who denounce recent facts involving other students. The prosecutor in charge of the file welcomes that speech is released.
Raised “L’Omerta which reigned on the campus” of Saclay: several investigations were recently opened for rape within prestigious establishments such as the École Normale Supérieure, Polytechnique and CentraleuPélec, south of Paris. The Parquet of Évry (Essonne) indicated on Friday June 24 at the Agency France-Presse (AFP) having opened several surveys for rape in four large schools located on the set of Saclay, in Essonne south of Paris, after having received “Several complaints”.
“Speech has been freed” in “closed places where it was difficult to speak and to be heard because it was necessary to preserve the reputation of the establishments”, welcomed the prosecutor of the Republic Caroline Nisand, who has opened surveys in CentraleuPélec, the École normale supérieure (ENS), Polytechnique and at the Institute of Optics. Among these rape surveys, three were entrusted to judges: one at CentraleuPélec and two to the ENS.
The complainants are all students, who denounce recent facts having taken place in recent years, and suspicions relate to other students: there is no, “at this time, report Authority “between the complainants and the suspects, specifies the prosecutor. The magistrate underlined “a dynamic” of the liberation of speech which contributed to “breaking the self -censorship” and “lifting the omerta which reigned on the campus” of Saclay, located in the Parisian suburbs. “It is encouraging that the victims dare to speak and file a complaint. It is up to the justice to do their job,” said AFP the prestigious polytechnic school nicknamed in France “X”.
Shock wave
The magistrate believes that speech was able to free herself from the dissemination of an internal questionnaire from the Centraleupélec engineering school, which had revealed a hundred facts of sexual harassment, sexual assault and rape on the academic year. The results of this internal survey had been reported by the school management at the Prosecutor of Évry, which then opened a preliminary investigation in October 2021 and went to the establishment to exchange with the students gathered in a Amphitheater fills, accompanied by the gendarmes. “The results of this survey amazed us,” said school director. “If we have long been engaged in the fight against gender-based and sexual violence, we were far from taking the exact measure,” he added.
Now, two surveys are underway in CentraleuPélec, following two rape complaints: one led by the prosecution and the other entrusted to an investigating judge. Similar revelations had marked Polytechnique, where the management “in shock”, had reported to justice the results of an internal questionnaire. According to this questionnaire, one student surveyed in four said he had been the victim of sexual assault in her schooling and eleven students said they had been victims of rape or attempted rape. The prosecution had opened an investigation in April.
To date, the Évry prosecution has three in progress preliminary surveys, following two complaints for rape in Polytechnique and a report. Two surveys at the École normale supérieure (ENS) were also entrusted in early June to judges for rape and sexual assault, following two complaints. A preliminary investigation is underway at the Institute of Optics for Rape and Sexual Assault.
