I always come back with pleasure to Quentin Dupieux, I agree with his cinema since his first film, which was called Nonfilm [2001], and it is a charming type, in addition. Do you see, over time, an evolution in his style?

Frankly, I see a film by Quentin Dupieux each time and at the same time a different film. He explores a new form all the time. It goes from frankly comic, type Dumb and Dumber [1994], Farrelly brothers, with a twisted narrative thing, to fantastic comedy, as incredible but true, where, around the surreal element, things are almost normal…

Do you think we can qualify this film, which holds moral tale and which distills a certain anxiety, comedy?

Ah yes, in any case, I make me laugh. But, however, the film does not leave us alone. We are no longer at the time of the Yeyés. We live in a certain galley, anyway. So, even if we do not know exactly at what time we are, even if people do not have their nose in their laptop all day, the film seizes our time, its fears and its madness.

You continue to carry out multiple activities head -on. Have you ever been tempted to tighten them on the realization?

Yes, it’s my drama, I’m a turtle. I admire Quentin Dupieux, I don’t know how he holds such a rhythm. I would love to make a film per year. To think that it is not so serious, and too bad if you do not make a masterpiece. To deliver something qualitative each time is still very difficult. Even [Jean-Pierre] Mocky, whom I really like, could not do it.

we find this eclecticism even in your achievements. You easily go from the wacky film, like “Didier” (1997), to the “Asterix” (2002) superproduction or to the film for young audiences…

Yes, because I always walk between my two great loves of youth. Walt-Disney-Gosciny on one side and the Echo of the Savans-Charlie Hebdo on the other. I love the childish spirit, whether on the side of the enchantment or on the side of insolence. I like to hear children’s laughter in theaters, because the children don’t care about politeness, they go out if they find it bad, and when they stay and they like I am super-commerce.
