Monumental or amazing works in wood, glass, ceramics, feather, metal, African know-how and young talents to discover … Here are the highlights of the Revelations Salon, which is held from June 9 to 12 Large ephemeral palace, in Paris.
planned in 2021 then postponed from June 9 to 12, the International Biennial of Art and Creation, Revelations, must make it possible to admire the licked works of some 400 exhibitors – Matter artists, Manufactures, Galeries , Foundations… – under the 44 monumental arches of the Grand Palais Ephemère, in Paris, with the Eiffel Tower in a target. Full lights on the strengths of this fifth edition organized by Ateliers d’Art de France, which resuscitates wood, glass, ceramics, paper, textiles, feathers or metal and pays homage this year, after Luxembourg in 2019, on the African continent.
Discovering Africa by its art professions
It all starts, from the entrance, with the emblem of this 2022 fair: a monumental sculpture in the acid-up clusters of the South African ceramist, Zizipho Poswa. This play in the series “Magodi” (Xhosa hairstyle, the artist’s language) celebrates the traditional hair art of the country, with this skillfully woven, turned or threaded hair. Then comes the Agora space, with its selection of objects from a dozen art workshops from all over Africa, including these monochrome weaving of Johanna Bramble (Senegal) associating cotton, paper and abaca Taken from the banana leaves, or this coconut maker of the primary shades of the designer and cabinetmaker Jean Servais Somian (Côte d’Ivoire).
The Central Exhibition Le Banquet illustrates the richness of know-how in ten countries and regions of the world, of which, for the first time, the United Arab Emirates or French Polynesia (with mother-of-pearl, wood and braiding work ). Here again, the African continent is represented, with a carte blanche given in Morocco, Nigeria and Zambia.
Finally, on the stands’ exceptions of Africa, commissioned by Nelly Wandji, new contemporary treasures are to be discovered, including these creations drawn by the French designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance for the young honest publishing house, launched in Ouagadougou , in Burkina Faso, thanks to the know-how of local bronziers.
The creation “made in France”
There are the faithful of the Biennale such as the Atelier Demichelis, a Toulouse Lighting and Bronze Furniture Creator, Ulgador, the Seine-et-Marnais workshop of metallic decorations with the leaf or the Corrézian factory of contemporary woodwork Lamellux. There are these young shoots that revelations highlighted in their beginnings as the magician of ceramics Kaori Kurihara, Japanese artist installed in Paris, or the art cabinetmaker and researcher Steven Leprizé, founder of Arca.
