In Paris, an exhibition in augmented reality traces the history of Notre-Dame and penetrates behind the scenes of its restoration.

Notre-Dame de Paris, closed from this drama and always in works, reborn from his ashes … in three dimensions (3D), in this virtual exhibition that stands until July 17. Realized by Histovery, in collaboration with the public institution responsible for the conservation and restoration of the monument, it invites to plunge in an educational way in 850 years of history and to discover the scenes of its restoration thanks to the increased reality. “It’s a way of reminding that she is there, she is still standing. With the help of their tablet, visitors can travel through time and space “at their own pace and based on their interests,” says Bruno de Sa Moreira, co-founder of the start- up at the origin of the project. From the pose of the first stone, in 1163, to the edification of the arrow by Viollet-le-Duke, passing by the coronation of Napoleon, the exhibition proposes an interactive itinerary where past and present mingle. It is thus amazed to discover in 3D the medieval parvis of Notre-Dame, at the XIII e century, and to compare it with that of the XXI e century. A leap in the past in one click! “It’s like a game !, Exclaims Véronique du Mesnil Gaillard. Compare the past and the present is to have a complete vision of the cathedral.” Thirty-five scientific committees have been mobilized to make this exhibition proud of Its historic rigor.

International tour

While the first part of the visit is dedicated to the past of Notre-Dame, visitors will also be able to dive into the restoration of the monument in full reconstruction. “Our goal is to shine the current shipyard, but also the unknown heritage trades of the general public,” says Jeremiahn-Leitus, Director of the Communication of the Public Establishment for the Conservation and Restoration of the Cathedral. Stone tailors, carpenters, roofers or even cordifiers, the exhibition indicates these professions who have worked to consolidate the building. “We want to arouse vocations with younger generations,” he insists. Texts, videos and 3D modeling accompany the discovery of the site not and not and reveal behind the scenes. “It was a real challenge to explain operations that lasted six months in two words, without losing their marrow substantive,” said Jérémie-Patrier-Leitus.
