New Release Distribution Raspberry PI OS

Project developers Raspberry PI Published Spring Update Distribution raspberry PI OS 2022-04-04 (Raspbian) based on the Debian batch database. For loading three builds prepared – abbreviated ( 297 MB ) for server systems, with a base desktop ( 837 MB ) and full with an additional set of applications (2.2 GB). The distribution is supplied with the PIXEL user environment (branch from LXDE). To install from repository about 35 thousand packages are available.

In the new release:

  • In a graphic session added experimental support for working using the Wayland protocol. Wayland’s application has become possible due to the translation last year of the PIXEL environment from the OpenBox window manager on Mutter. Wayland support is still limited and some desktop components continue to use the X11 protocol, running under XWayland. You can activate the Wayland session in the “Advanced Options” section in the Raspi-Config Configurator.
  • The use of the “PI” predetermined account is discontinued, instead of which the user has been given the opportunity to create its account.
  • A new system setting wizard is proposed, started during the first boot process and allows you to configure the language settings, define network connections and install application updates. If earlier the launch of the wizard could be skipped by pressing the “Cancel” button, then it was the mandatory use of its use.

The configuration wizard built into the interface to create the first account and until this account will be collected, the user will not be able to enter the user environment. The wizard itself is now started as a separate environment, and not as an application in the desktop session. In addition to creating an account in the wizard, separate settings for each connected monitor are also implemented, which are applied immediately and do not require restart.

  • In the trimmed image of the Raspberry PI OS Lite to create an account in the console mode, a special dialog is displayed.
