Didier Drogba appreciates the moment, and applauds with the smile members of his team. The candidate wants to show that it is well surrounded and end ready to chair. However, some hosts are lacking alongside the former Ivorian selection captain: the presidents of clubs who, a few days of the deadline, have not come in numbers. The 76 leaders of the first three divisions as well as five interest groups composed of Ivorian football players, will be the only major voters of the poll to be held in Yamoussoukro on Saturday 23 April.
“They were invited, some have commitments, some could not move. The most important is not their presence today but the act they will put on Saturday”, Justified Didier Drogba Monday, after being asked about this very noticed absence. The presidents, under pressure, would prefer to be discreet in the last straight before the election that will see the former international face Sory Diabaté and Idriss Diallo, two former Vice-Presidents of FIF.

But doubt has settled. Didier Drogba, a planetary star of the round ball, and enjoying in Ivory Coast of immense popularity, will he succeed in convincing voters after months of a campaign marked by the couracs? “At the moment, he meets a lot of people, he tries to catch up with lost time, and sometimes even to apologize,” says Fernand Dedeh, recognized Ivorian sports journalist. He entered the campaign in 2020 by the wrong door. “
At the end of 2019, the just retired from the sport King announces wanting to run the post whose ballot is supposed to stand in May 2020. But, to the surprise of his fans, Drogba fails to bring together the necessary sponsorships to the Ivorian football players. “From the start, he did not know how to do the move, he did not know how to talk to the clubs and the world of sport to make his idea understand,” says Fernand dedeh.
