Github Blocked Sympi repository after a false complaint

GitHub blocked Repository with official project documentation Sympy and placed on GitHub servers docs.sympy.org After receiving Complaints About HackerRank’s copyright violations specializing in contests among developers and hiring programmers. Blocking is made on the basis of the Copyright Act in the USA (DMCA) after the complaint against the Association of Recording Companies of America (RIAA).

After Perturbation Community HackerRank It was a complaint and recognized that the application for copyright infringement was sent by mistake. GitHub removed the lock from the repository and the Sympy website. To avoid such errors in the future, the head of HackerRank announced about the suspension of the DMCA complaints process before revising the rules for determining violations. In terms of compensation, HackerRank intends to sacrifice the Sympy project of 25 thousand dollars.

project sympy develops a Python library of computer algebra for Symbolic calculations and applying discrete mathematics methods that are popular among accounting, researchers and students. HackerRank’s claims were committed to charges of borrowing materials from the company’s tests at one of the pages site with the documentation for Sympy.

History is interesting because, apparently, HackerRank employees at their time used excerpts from the official Sympy documentation in their tests. HackerRank has hired Worthit Solutions, whose representatives of HackerRank have conducted a raid to identify the facts of borrowing HackerRank materials, found an intersection and not dealing with a complaint against copyright against the site in which the Sympy documentation was posted.

It is noteworthy that this is not the first case and HackerRank has previously turned up in sending complaints that do not apply to reality. For example, PHP developers in January got a complaint against copyright infringement on page with a description of the RANGE () function on php.net. Prior to that, more than 40 repositories were blocked by complaint
