Former President of Guinea, Alpha Condé, who led the country for nearly eleven years, is “free” of his movements and can freely receive his loved ones, announced Friday night 22 April the junta which overthrew September 5, 2021.
Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, Head of the authors of the 5th of September, “informs the national and international opinion that the former President of the Republic [Mr. Condé] is finally free”, in an official statement Posted on Friday night. “While continuing to benefit from adequate protection, he [Mr. Conde] may receive at his request the members of his biological, political, friends or close”, “says the press release.
President Condé “will remain at the current residence of his wife [in Conakry] until the completion of the construction of his private domicile”, located in Kipé, in the suburbs of the capital.
Colonel Doumbouya “reassures that the people of Guinea and the international community that the dignity and integrity of Professor Alpha Condé will always be preserved”, according to the press release.
Authority or dictatorial regimes
The gathering of the people of Guinea (RPG), the party of Mr. Conde, had recently complained about the “blurly maintained around the status of the former president and denounced a restriction of his movements and the detention of Several of his leaders, including his last Ibrahima Kassory Fofana Prime Minister and former Ministers.
The RPG was 15 April “reiterated its request for total and unconditional release of the President” Conde and announced, in a sign of protest, his refusal to participate in the national sittings, open on March 22 until 29 April at the Initiative of the junta in power, as well as any political dialogue.
At the head of the country for nearly eleven years, Mr. Conde was overthrown on September 5, 2021 by Colonel Doumbouya, who had been investing since the President of the Republic. He has always said nothing about the deadline he intends to honor his commitment to make power to elected civilians.

Guinea has been directed for decades by authoritarian or dictatorial regimes and is customary of the deadly political violence. The last years of the presidency of Alpha Condé have been marked by severely repressed protest months before its reversal by the military in 2021.
