Paris: RATP temporarily removes 149 electric traffic buses after two fires

An electric bus caught fire on Friday morning near the National Library of France, almost a month after a first fire on Boulevard Saint-Germain.

The RATP announced on Friday April 29, the temporary removal of the traffic of 149 electric buses, after two fires occurring in the capital in almost a month.

“Regarding the second fire on a recent electric bus in the same Bluebus 5SE series from the Bolloré brand in less than a month, the RATP made the decision as a precaution, in connection with Ile-de -France mobility, to temporarily withdraw from the exploitation the 149 electric buses of this series, “she said in a press release.

Earlier in the morning, an electric bus caught fire without a victim on a Parisian avenue, said the RATP, according to which an investigation must determine the causes of the disaster. The fire broke out at 8:05 a.m. on this bus 71 bus near the François-Mitterrand Library stop, in the 13th arrondissement.

“The driver of the bus immediately evacuated the travelers. There is no one injured”, according to the RATP, specifying that “the machinist was taken care of by his supervision”.

The fire released thick black smoke and a strong smell of burned plastic, noted an AFP journalist. About thirty firefighters and fifteen machines were dispatched to extinguish the fire, according to the Paris firefighters.

On April 4, a fire was also said for an indefinite reason aboard an electric bus while it was traveling Boulevard Saint-Germain, in the V e arrondissement. No one had been injured but the vehicle had been destroyed.
