The disturbing universe of the Die Antwoord group no longer fascinates. In the early 2010s, the crazy duo became the most famous South African musical training abroad with its psychedelic rapping psychedelle that stages the daily “White Trash” South African and that Ultra-violent gangs from CAP. Already struck by several controversies, the couple Watkin Tudor Jones, alias “ninja”, and ani of the roof, alias “yolandi to screw”, must now face his adopted son, who accuses him of mistreatment and says he fears sexual violence on His sister in a forty-five minute video resumed, at the end of April, by the South African press.
Adopted at 9 years old, Gabriel du Preez, known as “Tokkie”, grew up in Vrededorp, a miserable district near the city center of Johannesburg. He suffers from a genetic disease responsible in particular for severe malformations of the teeth. With this handicap and his shaggy hair, the little one seems straight out of the group’s clips. It will not be long in playing in it. In 2010, “Tokkie” crosses the road to one of the duo collaborators, Ben Jay Crossman, who took a picture of it. Seeing the image, Anri du Toit and Watkin Tudor Jones ask to meet the child. They adopt it immediately. His mother, who has little to offer him in the face of the success of Die Antwoord, thinks that it will be “a good experience”.

20 years old, “Tokkie” now claims to have been used as “an accessory”. In 2012, he became the face of the group’s most famous clip, I Fink You Freeky and I Like You A Lot (“I find you weird and I love you very much”). Directed in collaboration with the famous South African photographer Roger Ballen, it was seen more than 170 million times on Youtube. “I watched this video a lot and I showed it to my mother. Above all, Gabriel du Preez describes a sordid childhood bathed in violence, drugs, sex and loneliness. After adopting it, the group welcomes him at his home, in a chic district of Johannesburg. Most often, he is alone, while musicians travel around the world. For two years, they will leave it at home with a baby-sitter, while they are installed in Los Angeles.
When his adoptive parents are there, it’s chaos. We smoke and consume all kinds of substances next to him, naked women walk in the house, “ninja” asks “tokkie” to roll his joints, accuses Gabriel du Preez. The duo, which often depicts the universe of CAP townships in its short film clips, frequents the city gangs. A killer named nicknamed “Anies” becomes the friend of “Tokkie”. He has been murdered since. Gabriel du Preez also evokes a “training camp” where he would have learned to handle “all kinds of weapons” for a month, as well as strange rituals.
