Afghanistan: Taliban orders women to wear burqa in public

In Afghanistan, the Taliban still strengthens their control of women. The supreme chief ordered, on Saturday, May 7, to the Afghanes to wear the burqa, a full veil, in public. This is the most severe restriction on their freedom since the Taliban’s return to power in August.

“They should bear a Chadri [another name of the burqa], because it is traditional and respectful,” notes this decree signed by Hibatullah Akhundzada and made public on Saturday by the Taliban government before the press in Kabul.
