violence and degradations in the capital

During this period, Paris had been the scene of the largest demonstrations of the social movement, regularly punctuated by violence, clashes with the police and degradations.

During the first weekends of mobilization, the Arc de Triomphe had notably been vandalized, and “yellow vests” had forced the entrance to the ministry of the ex-government of the government, Benjamin Griveaux. In March 2019, the famous Brasserie du Fouquet’s, on the Champs-Elysées, had been burnt down.

“Such degradations therefore result from a crowd (…), and not from a group organized and constituted the sole purpose of committing crimes,” he continued. Consequently, “the city of Paris is justified in requesting the commitment of state responsibility.”

The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, praised on Twitter the decision of the administrative court of the capital.
