Tribune. The War of Russia in Ukraine is the first conflict of a “third world war” which, failing to have been anticipated, has already begun. Still, by “Third World War”, it is necessary to understand the destructuring of the standards that defined the international order established after 1945 rather than the overall dissemination of a local war. It is not just a return: to the war of high intensity, the war between states, the war in Europe. It is also the beginning of a “new world disorder” precipitated by nations wanting to abolish an “old order” perceived as bridging their emergence even though it has, despite everything, made their boom possible.
After two years of Covid-19, the Ukrainian conflict seals even more the end of the “happy globalization”: solidification of borders, dissemination of inflation, disappearance of cheap energy. Truth below Caucasus, lying beyond. It is now known: the era of post-truth is also the era of post-peace. The war is more than the continuation of “Fake News” by other means. No better way to deny the truth than to destroy what is. For Vladimir Putin, Ukraine as a nation does not exist, so must be erased. For Xi Jinping, Taiwan as a state does not exist, so will have to disappear. For these leaders, the “civilizational” determinism must be imposed on the will of peoples who refuse to be “saved” by their empire.
Deliberate Lie
That states that hide the truth of their history to their own citizens can serve as a springboard for the dissemination of “alternative facts” is logical. But no one is deliberately and systematic without believing in his own lies. When we need the lie to excuse the inexcusable, we end up convincing the “veracity” of it. One wonders how Putin and his entourage can bomb a people said brother and friend, a country included in the “Russian-speaking matrix”: just saying that they do not bomb them …
