“A peaceful city, they just pull on infrastructure, on inhabitants, they scare them”

If the risk of encirclement of this city from the southern Ukraine could be repulsed for the moment, the Russian army multiplies the strikes.

Two powerful detonations sound in the sky, and everyone in the street looks up, trying to distinguish a sign in azure blue. Two round smoke rounds float quietly, vertically stack of downtown Mykolav, south of Ukraine. “It’s the anti-aerial defense, comments on a passer-by. I hope the missiles have typed something!” A violent explosion negatively answers a few seconds later, much more powerful than the previous ones. A light black smoke rises to a kilometer, which disappears after a few minutes.

It’s the Ingul Hotel that was hit. Any building, gray, four floors and has just lost two. The bomb struck in the middle of the hotel, fortunately closed since the beginning of the war. No casualties were reported. The hotel’s guardian managed to go out all the clump of rubble and speaks with police officers and soldiers. A passer-by told him that he has seen a bomb with a small parachute. A technology that seems incongruous but used by the Russian aviation in Syria, as evidenced by many videos. It would be a question of delaying the explosion to give time to a low altitude flying bomber to escape the shock wave.

“The plane dropped its bombs in the city center, with kinds of stabilization parachutes,” confirm the governor Vitali Kim, Monday night, in a short video. “I’m just very angry, he continues. They [the Russians] really have [bombarded] a hospital, a hotel … a park. A peaceful city, they right on infrastructure, on the inhabitants, they scare them . “

A psychiatric hospital has been destroyed, it seems, by the same bomber, also without making victims. He had been previously evacuated. On the other hand, three civilians were killed on Monday near a gas station by an artillery shot, in the south of the city.

At least 50 Ukrainian soldiers killed in their sleep

Bombarded almost daily since February 24, Mykolav pays a heavy tribute to the Russian invasion. On March 19, a missile, probably very large caliber, destroyed a military barracks in the north of the city, shortly before 6 am. This striking has made a carnage because between 100 and 200 Ukrainian soldiers slept in the building. About 50 soldiers would have perished in their sleep, but neither the army nor any official wants to give a number.

The regional morgue is now completely saturated with corpses of military. A cold room container was installed in the yard to overcome the lack of space. Valentin, a reservist officer who prefers to silence his name, plague against “very serious fault” of concentrating the soldiers in one place. “We know very well that the Russians have no remorse to hit their opponents in sleep, with weapons that we do not have the equivalent. During the war, the soldiers must not sleep in a barracks!”
