The missile shots on Erbil, who did not do victims, occur a few days after the death of two Iranian grades in Damascus.

The Guardians of the Revolution, the ideological army of Tehran, have claimed on Sunday the responsibility of missile shots on the city of Erbil, the capital of the Regional Government of Kurdistan, in northern Iraq. The missiles landed in an area near the American consulate without a victim. The guards say they have targeted “the strategic center of the conspiracy of Zionists” (the Israelis, in the official Iranian jargon) in Erbil in retaliation of the “recent crimes” of Israel. On March 7, two grades of the Guardians of the Revolution (PASDARAN) were killed in Israeli attacks on the Syrian territory, which this elite unit had promised to respond.
On Sunday, the US National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, told the American CBS News channel that the missile attack had not reached any US facility or American citizen. The Kurdistan24 satellite television channel, located near the American consulate, announced that it has suffered damage due to the attack. Mr. Sullivan said Washington traded with the Iraqi government to help him better defend his cities against missile strikes. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry has summoned the same day the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Baghdad, Iraj Masjedi, to protest against the attack in his territory.
Significant climbing
Iranian leaders and military has repeatedly denounced a presence of Israeli intelligence services in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, what Kurdish officials rejected. Sunday, the governor of Erbil, Omid Khushnaw, once again denied any presence of Israel in the region, calling the “unfounded” tehran allegations. Monday, Israel still did not react to Iranian statements.
The Iranian strike in northern Iraq and the fact that Tehran claims openly mark a significant escalation in the face to face between Washington and Tehran. The indirect confrontation of these long-time enemies has often been played in Iraq, the country whose government is allied from both countries. Sunday attack occurs while negotiations in Vienna to revive the 2015 Tehran Nuclear File Agreement mark a “break” since March 11, due to requests from Moscow. Russia requires the United States the guarantee that in case of agreement the sanctions that have been imposed in Moscow in response to the invasion of Ukraine will not affect its commercial relations with Iran. A position that some observers qualify for “hostage” of the “Deal” nuclear.
