Several Twitter accounts related to Eric Zemmour’s campaign, including Generation Z, the youth movement of the far-right candidate, were suspended from Twitter for several hours, Friday, March 4th. Accounts related to the National Gathering (RN) suffered the same fate, such as Jean-Philippe Tanguy, Deputy Director of the Marine Le Pen campaign, or those of the Director of the RN Communication, Alexandre Loubet
“Our rules have been applied by mistake for certain accounts. The accounts in question are being restored,” explains the social network. Most of the accounts concerned were actually delivered online Friday early evening, found Le Monde.
Eric Zemmour activists as well as militants from the national rally have denounced a “censorship” and implied that these suspensions had been ordered by Emmanuel Macron , the day after the announcement of his application for a new term.
Automatic moderation
Twitter did not specify why these accounts had been suspended, but the system of automatic moderation of the social network commits errors regularly. At the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, several accounts documenting the invasion had been suspended, before being restored a few hours later.
Very active on Twitter, Eric Zemour activists, especially those of Generation Z, use the social network to “ride” topics in the news, among others. Le Monde had shown how Eric Zemmour’s activists would very regularly impose keywords on the Trends tab of Twitter.
