The Court of Cassation rejected, Wednesday, February 16, an appeal of Shaoyao Liu’s family, a Chinese father killed in 2017 by a police officer during an intervention at his Parisian home. This decision, consulted by the France-Presse Agency, makes the non-place for the official definitive.
The criminal chamber of the highest French judicial jurisdiction did not admit the appeal of the Liu family which disputed the non-place granted to the police officer in July 2019, confirmed in November 2020 on appeal, the official who benefited from the self-defense. “The Court of Cassation notes that in this case, there is no way to allow the admission of the appeal”, is it written in the decision.
Unclear circumstances
On March 26, 2017 shortly after 8 pm, the police went to a city of 19 E Paris, alerted by a neighbor who reported the presence of Mr. Liu, very agitated and holding in hand what he thought was a knife.
Fear a danger, the police, two men and a woman, equipped with an assault rifle and pistols, had depressed the door of the home. A handful of seconds later, one of the officials pulled a shot, mentally touching Mr. Liu to the heart under the eyes of his children.
According to the police version, the father had to attack, with his scissors, the bearer of the assault rifle. “He plants me!” Shouted the latter, causing the riposte shot of his colleague. For the children of the 56-year-old man, their father never worn his hand on anyone: the blade was a pair of scissors, which was used to slap fish. A neighbor, a witness from the hall, ensures that he never heard the police scream “he plants me!” Before the shot.
The death of Shaoyao Liu triggered the anger of the Chinese community during several manifestations of unpublished magnitude.
