Emmanuel Macron proposes to appoint Jacqueline GOURAULT to Constitutional Council

Three mandates must end in mid-March and their replacement goes through the designation by the Elysee, the President of the Senate and the President of the National Assembly.

The waltz of the three vacancies, soon unoccupied at the Constitutional Council, is open. The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, proposed, on Tuesday, February 15, to appoint Jacqueline Gourault (modem), the current Minister of Cohesion of the Territories, to one of the three seats soon unoccupied, reports a statement from the Elysée.

Three mandates – those of Claire Bazy-Maraurie, Nicole Maestracci and Dominique Lottin – must end in mid-March and their replacement goes through the designation by the Elysee, the President of the Senate, Gérard Lacher, and the President From the National Assembly, Richard Ferrand, a candidate each. Once known, these three candidates must be confirmed by the commissions of the laws of both Houses.

If his appointment is approved, Jacqueline GOURAULT, 71, joined his predecessor to the Ministry of Cohesion of the Territories, Jacques Mézard. The former Senator of the Loir-et-Cher, former Vice President of the Senate, has been to the Government since June 21, 2017: M me GOURAULT was appointed Minister delegate to the Minister of the Interior , before taking the lead, in 2018, an entire minister devoted to local authorities.

The President of the National Assembly, Richard Ferrand (LRM), has, proposed in a separate statement, to appoint Véronique Malbec, former director of the National School of the Judiciary and Current Director of Cabinet du Garde Seals, as a member of the Constitutional Council, to another post that is released in the coming weeks.
