All cosmonauts “saved” after an emergency landing in a woody-swampy terrain

Conditional crew as part of an instructor center for training cosmonauts Dmitry Zasotenko, NASA Astronauts Francisco Rubio and Laurel O’Hara worked out the skills of survival in the Winter Forest. This training has become concluded in the cycle of similar tests, which took place from the end of January 2022.

Each of the three conditional crews experienced the difficulties associated with weather conditions: high drifts, filled firewood, sleet. All these factors were forced to spend a lot of time and effort to perform their tasks.

Francisco Rubio was born in Los Angeles, but his hometown he considers Miami. Lorel O’Hara is a native of Houston. Both astronauts have not yet have the experience of space flights and are actively preparing for them not only in their homeland, but also in Russia. In the summer of 2021, together with astronauts, they took part in training in the action of the crew when landing the descent apparatus on the water surface, and now the tests in the snow-covered forest were successfully passed. The crew performed the tasks set in front of him: carried out the construction of shelters, the flow of signals to rescuers, the provision of medical care and interaction with the search and rescue service.

Recall that in addition to the conditional crew of American astronauts, candidates for the cosmonauts of Roscosmos Kovyryan, Sergey Tether, Alexander Kolyabin, took part in training; Roskosmos Test Test Cosmonauts Oleg Platonov and Konstantin Borisov, as well as Instructors CPK.
