Five United Nations employees were kidnapped in southern Yemen at war, announced Sunday, February 13 the United Nations.
They were kidnapped in the governorate of Abyan (South) Friday as they returned to the port city of Aden “after having completed a field mission,” said France-Presse a door -PAROLE OF UN, ERI KANEKO.
“The United Nations are in close contact with the authorities to secure their release,” added M Kaneko.
The identity of the captors has not been specified.
Aden became the basis of the internationally recognized Yemeni government, after he was driven out of the Sanaa capital by the Houthis rebels in 2014.
A coalition led by Saudi Arabia supports the government in its war against the Houthis, supported by Iran since 2015. The conflict has made hundreds of thousands of deaths and displaced millions of people. According to the UN, it is the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.
