ZAC Doors of Tarn more and more disputed in southwest

Oppositions grow against a 195-hectare concerted development zone project between Tarn and Haute-Garonne. Protected species are threatened and the arrival of a worried e-commerce giant.

A horse on the departments of Haute-Garonne and Tarn, between Toulouse and Albi, the concerted development zone project (ZAC) of the Doors of the Tarn is increasingly contest. The opponents planned to demonstrate Sunday, February 6th. Thursday already, about twenty activists of ANV-Cop21 (non-violent action-cop21) Toulouse, Attac, Rebellion extinction, mowers and inhabitants of the Collective Saint-Sulpice together have been firmly evacuated by the gendarmes. From the dawn, they had blocked the site started the previous week, located in Saint-Sulpice-la-Pointe (Tarn), about thirty kilometers from Toulouse.

All fear the arrival of an e-commerce giant in this 195-hectare area, declared public utility in 2014, and then revised in 2018 by highlighting an “industrial ecology approach, a Pilot site from an environmental point of view “, can one read on the SPLA website (local public planning company), project manager on behalf of the Tarn department and several communities of communes. For Valérie Lumond, his director, who is called “very surprised at this occupation, the activity park is an opportunity for economic development for the territory and the municipalities of the surrounding area”. The SPLA hopes 2,200 jobs by 2042.

In the opponents’ line of sight, the project says Terra 2, a logistics warehouse of 530 meters long, 70,000 square meters out of twelve hectares of agricultural land to artificialize. And not connected to the railway line as originally envisaged. The 2018 Public Inquiry helps to welcome an online business, which would generate the movements of 250 to 300 heavyweights a day.

The doors of the Tarn and the department ensure that this company is not Amazon, while refusing to give the name of the company interested in these warehouses.

“Danger for local shops”

Sylvain Plianian, opposition councilor (various left) in Saint-Sulpice and a member of the Stop Terra 2 collective, highlights “the danger for small local businesses of such a platform, and especially the cost exorbitant of the work of the area, estimated at 88 million euros. “.

Since its launch in 2010, the ZAC has attracted its site that the Vinovalie headquarters – a large wine cooperative -, a petrol station and two restaurants. The SPLA retorts that the launch of this second phase of work will include “a cluster reserved for services, recreation, shops and restaurants for companies”. But also “as part of a circular economy approach, optimized waste management, a collective passenger transport network, sweet bonds for pedestrians and cyclists and a carpooling area”. The global project also mentions 40,000 trees planting, the creation of two wetlands and the sanctuarization of 8.5 hectares.
