Honduras: amnesty president of government officials of his husband

Some officials of the Government of the former President Manuel Zelaya (2006-2009) are pursued for alleged corruption.

The Minister Delegate for Transparency and Fighting Corruption, Edmundo Orellana, has distanced himself with this tweeting initiative: “a new impunity pact”.

This measure had been approved Thursday by Parliament chaired by Luis Redondo, a faithful of M me Castro, while the question of his legality has not yet been decided. A second chamber chaired by Jorge Calix, supported by dissidents of the free presidential party and part of the opposition, claims legitimacy. Negotiations have been involved in Manuel Zelaya, free coordinator.

“A PACT OF IMPUNITY”

m. Zelaya was tabled in 2009 by an alliance between civilians and military who reproached him with his rapprochement with Venezuela de Hugo Chavez. Some government officials are pursued for alleged corruption, including one of the members close to Mr. Redondo and a former minister who fled to Nicaragua.

Anti-corruption activists believe that the new law could also benefit people involved in illicit acts.

“We can not allow crimes against public administration to be amnestied,” said Odir Fernandez, a representative of the NGO National Anti-Corruption Council.

The lawyer of the patronal union, Gustavo Solorzano, denounced “an abuse” and “an impunity pact that we do not share”. He added that this provision should not be valid because of the conflict on the legality of Parliament.
