I saw the light release of a fully free Linux distribution TRISQUEL 10.0 , based on the batch database Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and use-oriented in small enterprises, in educational institutions and home users. TRISQUEL personally approved by Richard Tsvetna, officially recognized as a free software fund as completely free and placed in List Recommended Foundation for Distributions . To download installation images are available, size 2.7 GB and 1.2 GB (x86_64, armhf). The issue of updates for the distribution will be carried out until April 2025.
Distribution is notable for an exception to the delivery of all non-free components, such as binary drivers, Firmware and graphic design elements, distributed under non-free license or using registered trademarks. Despite the full failure of proprietary components, TRISQUEL is compatible with Java (OpenJDK), supports most of the audio and video formats, including work with DVD protected, cycling only completely free implementations of these technologies. As desktops are offered Mate (default), LXDE and KDE.
In the new release:
- the formation of assemblies for the I686 architecture is stopped, but the build is added for Arm architecture (ARMHF). In the future, it is planned to implement the support of Arm64 and PowerPC architectures.
- transition from the Ubuntu 18.04 batch base to the Ubuntu 20.04 branch.
- Up to version 5.4 updated the fully free version of the Linux kernel – Linux Libre, peeled from proprietary firmware and drivers containing non-free components. Packages with nuclei 5.8 and 5.13 are available as options.
- Mate desktop updated to version 1.24. Optionally, custom environments LXDE 0.99.2 and KDE 5.18 are available for installation.
- updated versions of programs, including ABROWSER (renamed Firefox) 96.0, Icedove (Thunderbird) 91.5.0, LibreOffice 7.1.7, VLC 3.0.9.2, Xorg 7.7, Glibc 2.31.
Basic Requirements to fully free distributions:
- inclusion in the software distribution with FSF approved by licenses;
- Invalid delivery of binary firmware (Firmware) and any binary components of drivers;
- failure to have unchangeable functional components, but the possibility of incorporating non-functional, subject to permission to copy and distribute them in commercial and non-commercial purposes (for example, CC BY-ND cards to the GPL game);
- Inadmissibility of the use of trademarks, the terms of use of which prevent free copying and distribution of the entire distribution or part;
- Compliance with the licensing purity of documentation, the inadmissibility of documentation recommending the installation of proprietary software to solve certain problems.
