Tribune. Students, alumni, parents and high school teachers Henri-IV and Louis-le-Grand recently learned with the will of the rectorate to remove the selection of Parisian students on file to enter these institutions.
Henri-IV and Louis-le-Grand would be temples of “the internet” and the bourgeoisie, “bad students” of social and academic mix. As older students and parents of students from these high schools, we express here our amazement. The reality of our experience is very far from these clichés.
Why is it a bad trial? The Rectorate highlights a percentage of 9% of fellows in Henri-IV and Louis-le-Grand for the year 2021, which would be lower than the national average. However, this figure does not reflect the historical reality of the entries of fellows in these high schools since 2015. In Louis-le-Grand, for example, 20% of the entrants in the high school in 2015 were stockiers, and the average rate of fellows oscillates between 10 % and 14%, or more, depending on the years, and, in preparatory classes, this figure regularly exceeds 20%. In addition, boarding schools are earmarked for fellows (in preparatory classes) to encourage their coming.
In 2020, the 260 students admitted to Louis-le-Grand Seconds came from 175 establishments. In Henri-IV, there are some 170 establishments from which the 280 seconds of a second. What other high school in France can boast of such diversity? By analyzing their social position index (IPS) [an indicator created by national education] on the basis of a retrospective calculation, half of the colleges of origin would have a score of 600 or 1200 [scores of a college Intermediate and / or disadvantaged, integrated since 2021 to the Affelnet algorithm, and playing as a “bonus” for college students who have made their schooling]. In addition, Henri-IV and Louis-le-Grand are stakeholders, for several years, a “cordy success” program, which allows excellent students from very disadvantaged colleges to integrate these high schools.
Individual accompaniment
The high schools Henri-IV and Louis-le-Grand put a point of honor to accompany their students from modest environments thanks to their respective foundations: already 750 students have been helped financially by the endowment fund Henri-IV, and 700 students were by the Foundation of Louis-le-Grand. Beyond this financial assistance, the students who need them benefit from an individual accompaniment that allows them to flourish, to benefit from the same cultural life and the same opportunities as their more favored comrades: accommodation solutions, Cultural outings, linguistic stays, support and tutoring programs.
