35 years ago, the first satellite of the “Screen-M” series, created in the company “Information Satellite Systems” named after Academician MF Reshetnyova, was launched, created in the company “Roskosmos” state corporation).
The launch of the Space Actuator “Screen-M” took place from the Baikonur cosmodrome on January 30, 1987. The product was an upgraded version of the satellite of the direct television broadcasting “Screen”, which was produced in the “Reshetnoye” company since the 1970s.
To create “Screen-M” was used fundamentally new for that period a unified platform, thanks to which the device was distinguished by greater energy-proof. This allowed to equip it with a repeater with two trunks – instead of one, like the previous “screen”. Thus, the bandwidth of the new satellite increased significantly.
Modernization of the system of direct television through the replenishment of its orbital grouping by the Space Actuator “Screen-M” allowed the 24-hour broadcast of the television signal to the eastern territory of our country.
In total, four satellites of this series were displayed on the geostationary orbit. On average, they worked for almost eight years under a given service life of three years. The last spacecraft “Screen-M” was launched in 2001 and successfully performed its functions for almost nine years.
