Total during the riots in Almaty, Shymkent and regional centers suffered 394 National Guardian. In addition, more than 90 units of military equipment of the National Guard were damaged.
Earlier, the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan deleted a message about 164 dead during the riots in the republic. There they stated that they did not give these data, the previously appeared information is not true. In turn, in the Ministry of Information and Public Development of Kazakhstan, they explained that the communication of the authorities about the number of victims was a technical error.
Protests in the republic began on January 2 due to the increase in gas prices for cars from 60 to 120 tenge (from 10 to 20 rubles) per liter. Soon, economic demands were replaced by political: the resignation of the government, holding new elections, consideration of the issue of lustration of people from the “clan” of the former President of Nursultan Nazarbayev. Tokayev called protesters terrorists. At his request to Kazakhstan included the forces of the organization of a collective security treaty.
