The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Foreign Ministry) Maria Zakharov called the effectiveness of the peacekeeping operation of the Collective Security Treaty (CSTO) in Kazakhstan to the obvious world. This is on Tuesday, January 11, reports RIA Novosti.
“The effectiveness of this action, these steps are obvious to the whole world. It may not be recognized only those who do not follow the situation at all,” Zakharov said on the ether of the program “60 minutes.”
In early January, mass protests began in Kazakhstan due to the sharp rise in gas engine fuel prices. Soon, the protesters put forward political requirements: the resignation of the government, holding new elections, departure from the policy of the former President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
Protests have grown into bulk riots. The main clashes with security forces were held in Alma-Ata. In some regions, building buildings were set fire. President Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev called the protesters of terrorists. At his request, the CSTO peacekeepers entered Kazakhstan. The conclusion of the contingent will begin on January 13, he said.
