The election of the new chapter of the European Parliament, which will replace the dead earlier David Sassololi, will be held on January 18. This is stated on the site EP.
According to the current European Parliament’s charter, the Functions of the Chair will temporarily fulfill the First Deputy Head of the Institute – up to the elections of the new chapter. Elections will be held during the plenary session in Strasbourg.
Sassolol himself was not going to participate in them because of health problems. Prior to this, in September 2021, he was hospitalized with inflammation of the lungs in Strasbourg (it was not caused by COVID-19). Sassololi died on Monday, January 11, due to serious problems with the immune system – before that, he was in the hospital for several weeks.
He was elected to his post in July 2019.
