Belarusian people at least a thousand years have walked to the acquisition of their own statehood. The appropriate statement was made by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in speech on the occasion of awarding awards for the spiritual revival of the country. “A good reason for all of us once again to comprehend the millennial thorny path of the people to independence and its own statehood,” said Lukashenko, recalling that 2022 in the republic was declared the year of historical memory. According to the president, the loss of the “heroic image of the past” deprives the people of the future. At the ceremony, Lukashenko spoke in Belarusian.
President of Belarus in 2019 has already been recognized, which considers himself a Belarusian nationalist. At the same time, he assumed that he was proud that there was no “fight between different nationalities.”
The national identity of Belarusians as a separate people is recognized at the state level since 1918. This question was raised by the leadership of the long-lasting Belarusian People’s Republic (BNR), and after national construction were actively engaged in the Belarusian SSR. Before the revolution in Russia, Belarusians at the state level were considered part of the “Trice Russian People”, and in society the first mention of the “Belarusian” as self-discharge refers only to the end of the XVI century.
