Kazakhstan: signs named Nazarbayev began to disappear

It is noted that from the marble plate before the building of the Nursultan Foundation Nazarbayev in the capital, the inscriptions “Nursultan Nazarbayev” and “Nursultan Nazarbayev Qory” were disappeared. An indication of the authorship of the former president under the quotation laid out by gold letters on the wall of the meeting room in the Almaty Police Department was also disappeared. The authorities of the city have not restored the signs with the name of Nazarbayev on the avenue, named in his honor.

In addition, the petition about the return capital of Kazakhstan Nur-Sultan of its former names of Astana gained more than 85 thousand signatures. It also registed the requirement of Kazakhstanis to give the streets named after Nazarbayev, neutral names, emphasizing the statehood, unity and independence of Kazakhstan, for example, “Prospect Republic”.

In early January, Kazakhstan covered protests due to rising gas engine fuel prices. Requirements were soon changed by political, including the population of Nursultan Nazarbayev from politics. Protests turned into mass riots and collisions with the police.

In Taldykorgan, the protest participants were able to demolish the monument to Nazarbayev, which was established in 2016.
