The first president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and the operating head of the state of Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev lead “fierce negotiations” on the redistribution of assets, revenues and mining in the country. This became known from the message of The Guardian newspaper, which refers to its own sources.
“The struggle for power in Kazakhstan continues. There are no guarantees that everything will end smoothly,” said one of the interlocutors of the publication. The Guardian is confident that Tokayev used repression to deprive the power of Nazarbayev and his family.
According to one of the sources of publication, Nazarbayev is located in China, but his former adviser Yermukhamet Ertysbayev is denied. He stated that the former president remains in Kazakhstan and is negotiating, but it becomes clear that the era of the first president ended. Ertysbayev also laid the blame for mass protests to “reactionary and conservative forces from the Nazarbayev clan.”
Another interlocutor The Guardian said that part of the political elite had already managed to declare his loyalty to Tokayev.
The first president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev did not appear in public and did not make any statements about the situation in the country from December 28, 2021. Former head of Kazakhstani special services Aluur Musaev even allowed a serious illness to whom or the death of the former head of state.
In early January, the mass protests broke out in Kazakhstan due to the increase in gas prices for cars from 60 to 120 tenge (from 10 to 20 rubles) per liter. Soon the protesters demanded the resignation of the government, re-election, as well as the lustration of people from the environment of the former President Nazarbayev.
