Former Foreign Minister of FRG and Ex-Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel said that the decision of the countries of Europe to abandon the negotiations between Russia and the US security guarantees is shame. The politician shared his opinion in an interview with the Tagesspiegel newspaper.
According to Gabriel, European countries should be connected to consultations with Moscow, and not to give the initiative in Washington’s hands.
“I am ashamed that many in Europe behave as if nothing happens, and rejoices that the United States is once again negotiating a topical question,” Gabriel stressed. The passive position of the European leaders “plays the Kremlin’s hand,” says the ex-head of the Foreign Ministry.
Politician concluded that Europe confirms the position of the Russian leadership regarding its insignificant role in the negotiations of the parties.
