Gazprom threatened “Moldovagazus” suspension of gas supplies, if not received another payment until January 20. This was stated by the prime minister of Moldova Natalia Gavrilitsa, writes RIA Novosti.
“Yesterday, Gazprom sent the official letter to Moldovagaza, in which he warned about the intention to stop the supply of gas in the event of an outstanding payment until January 20.” Moldovagaz “did not have time to collect money,” she noted. Gavrilitsa plans to make an initiative to introduce a state of emergency in the field of energy due to the risk of termination of gas supplies to the Republic.
Moldovagaz is not able to independently perform the January payment for the gas supplied, so the company asks to provide it with a delay or short-term loan. This was previously stated by the head of Moldovagaza Vadim Cheban.
According to him, the Board of the Company addresses support for all shareholders, including the Gazprom itself. The authorities should refund VAT companies and compensate for household consumers the difference between the natural gas price, on the basis of which the tariff is calculated, and the procurement cost, confident Cheban.
He also believes that the problems of Moldova with Gazprom are associated with a long-standing habit of the republic to receive gas in debt. Cheban called not to look for in this political background, recalling that Gazprom concluded a favorable contract with Moldova.
