US anti-Russian plans aimed at weakening the position of Russia in the European energy market with a liquefied natural gas (LNG) are utopia, writes a researcher at the Institute of European Studies of the Chinese Academy of Contemporary International Relations of Dong Yafan in his article for Huanqiu.
According to the US media, the Presidential Administration of US President Joe Bayiden discusses with the Qatar and other Middle East states an increase in the supply of LNG to Europe to “eliminate the dependence” of the continent from the Russian “Blue Fuel”, writes the author.
IFAN noted that this is not the first case when the United States begins the “strategic seizure of allies”, contributing to the separation of European and Russian energy. He recalled that during the Cold War, the United States prevented energy cooperation between European countries and the USSR.
“This time, the United States hopes with small measures to prevent EU and Russia’s energy cooperation, performing the bridge between its allies,” he wrote. IFAN believes that, given the objective conditions of the gas industry, Washington will be difficult to control Moscow by gas.
