The agreement of a single parent becomes sufficient to vaccinate children aged 5 to 11 against COVID-19, announced, Tuesday, January 25, the Ministry of Health which seeks to take off vaccination within of this age group.
Anti-Covid vaccination is open since the end of December for 5-11 years, with one type of vaccine: a less dosed version of the one developed by Pfizer-Biontech. Children likely to develop serious forms of COVID-19 or living with immunocompromised people could already be vaccinated since December 15.
At first, the agreement of a single parent was sufficient. Then, on January 6, the Ministry announced that the written agreement of both parents became necessary, in accordance with a request from the Council of State.
Pharmacists authorized to vaccinate children
This requirement had sparked the regret of some experts, the unnecessary and counterproductive judgment. This was the case of the Immunologist Alain Fischer, at the head of the Vaccine Strategy Policy (COSV), one of the agencies responsible for directing the government’s action in this area. “It’s a bit unhappy, it’s an obstacle that dramatizes this notion of vaccination,” he said.
By alleging this rule, the government tries to revive vaccination in this age group, which is experiencing a dusk start. At the date of Sunday, January 9, according to the figures of the Ministry of Solidarities and Health, 115,000 children of this age group had received a dose, only 2% of the eligible population.
As such, the government will also allow pharmacists and nurses to vaccinate children, which was until then reserved for doctors alone.
“Pharmacies have the opportunity to order” since Monday, 24 January a limited number of Pfizer-Biontech vaccines for children, has announced the Union of Pharmaceutical Trade Unions (USPO), information confirmed on Tuesday by The Ministry of Health.
