Political analyst appreciated chances of placing Russian weapons in Latin America

Latin American countries will not agree to the placement of Russian weapons on its territory. This was stated by the director of the Institute of the United States and Canada (RAS) Valery Garbuzov in a conversation with TASS.

According to him, under the American sanctions of Cuba and Venezuela, they will not want to deteriorate relations with the United States, and the placement of Russian missiles will only tighten the sanction regime. In addition, the solution of Latin American countries may also affect the prospect of long-lasting arms of Russia, a political analyst added.

Garbuzov also expressed the view that Russia and NATO should stop perceiving each other as an enemy. However, the North Atlantic Alliance clings for the legal side and bureaucracy.

Earlier in January, several Russian media wrote that the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ryabkov spoke about the possibility of placing Russian strategic weapons in Cuba or in another country as a response to NATO actions in Eastern Europe. However, in reality, the diplomat said that he would neither confirm nor eliminate such an opportunity.
