Poland’s authorities will begin to build a wall at the border with Belarus from January 25. The starting date of construction works announced a spokesman for the Border Guards of the country Anna Mikhalskaya, reports TASS.
“In accordance with the plan, the construction of a barrier on the border with Belorussia begins,” Mikhalskaya told. She noted that at the border areas, preparatory work is underway for some time, and soon the territory will be transferred to the performers.
It is planned that the wall in the height will reach 5.5 meters, and in length – more than 186 kilometers. Work on the construction of the barrier must be completed in June. The contract for the construction of the fence was concluded in the amount of 644 million zlotys (about $ 160 million), the money was allocated from the budget of Poland.
On January 4, the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Poland Machi Wansik said that the border office of the republic signed contracts with contractors on the construction of the wall on the border with Belarus against the background of the migration crisis, which was aggravated in early November. The total length of the Belorussian-Polish border is almost 400 kilometers. On the border there are 12 checkpoints.
